Card games constitute any game that makes use of playing cards using rules to set down how the game is played. There are an enormous number of card games in existence, some more popular than others.
The ‘Deck’
A card game is played with what is known as a deck of cards and each individual card is identical in shape and size so as not to give away the value of the face (front of the card showing value). The backs of the cards in a deck will likely contain a pattern or image but all will be the same so that they can not be individually identifiable.
A standard deck contains 52 cards in four suits (spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs) and thirteen cards per suit running from two (deuce) to ten, jack, queen, king, and ace. There are also some card games that require multiple standard decks to be used on any one hand. In this scenario, the "deck" would refer to a set of 52 cards or a single deck, while a "pack" or "shoe" (blackjack) would refer to the collection of "decks" as a whole.

Poker is definitely one of the more popular card games. There are hundreds of different poker variants each with their own rules however for the most, poker uses a standard 52 card single deck or pack of cards.
It wasn’t until just after 1829 that the 52 card deck came into existence and with it came the introduction into poker of the flush.
In this day and age the popularity of poker has reached an unprecedented level and at the beginning of the 21st century, largely because of the introduction of online poker and the invention of the hole card camera, which turned the game into a spectator sport. Before this introduction is was far more difficult to get spectators more involved in the game as they never knew what players were holding and could therefore not appreciate the plays being made.
