Fold is the term in poker to indicate that a player no longer wishes to stay in the hand and would forfeit their stake to the current pot. When a player declares ‘fold’, this indicates that the player does not have a strong enough hand to warrant calling a bet.
A player can indicate their intention to fold by either declaring “fold”, or by discarding their hand in the pile of other cards (folded) , known as the muck.
In any game of poker, when a bet is made, players are not obliged to call or match a bet and would only do so where there hand justified the action.
